Latinos represent the largest ethnic minority population in the country, a bloc that is growing more than three times faster than the average national population growth. In fact, during the last decade, the Latino population in the US grew to a whopping 62.5 million.
This rapidly growing Hispanic population puts them in the enviable position of having a powerful impact on policy, both in their local communities and nationally. It is critical that someone educate, encourage, and motivate Latinos so they will become more civically involved.
The Latino Action Foundation was created to conquer this challenge.
According to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Latino Policy & Politics Institute, “Latinos had the lowest (voter) registration rate among racial and ethnic groups during the 2020 general election at 61.1%.” However, “…once registered, 88 percent of Latino voters cast a ballot.” The report goes on to claim, “Despite the increased role of Latino voters in determining elections…the mobilization of Latino votes has frequently lagged behind other major demographic groups.”
In other words, Hispanics have been slower to register to vote, but once registered, they are very likely to vote and significantly impact elections. Thus, it’s critical that we in the business community have an organization specifically dedicated to effectively educate, register, motivate, and activate this powerful Latino constituency.
To increase public policy awareness of Hispanics in specific states throughout the country, educate them on the value of civic participation in local, state, and national governments and encourage them to be engaged citizens.
LAF is designed to be the go-to source of information for and about Latinos. We identify, collect, and archive existing Latino studies and conduct baseline qualitative and quantitative public opinion research. This public opinion data will help identify key issues within Latino communities.
Applying our data and research, we will execute broadcast/digital education campaigns and build an effective national grassroots community, while collaborating with existing local groups, to help engage and equip Latinos on policy issues that affect them and their families. Through these efforts, LAF will serve as an authoritative educational resource for the Latino community and the American public. What’s more, we make this information available to the public through various mediums so that other organizations can take advantage of our resources to assist in the overall mission of Latino civic participation.
